The Arbeitsamt der Deutschsprachigen Gemeinschaft (the Employment Office of the German-Speaking Community of Belgium) is the public service for Employment of the German-Speaking Community of Belgium. It was founded the 1st of January 2000, further to the transfer of the competence “employment” from the Walloon Region towards the German-Speaking Community. Its assignments are based on three main axes: employment, vocational training and vocational guidance.
In the field of employment, its tasks consist in registration and support to job seekers , active or not, as well as recruitment and placement of workers; including by the mean of temporary work.
In the field of vocational training, the Arbeitsamt is in charge of training, long-life training and retraining of job seekers and workers. It offers training stages in its own training centres (notably in the tertiary sector – secretarial work, languages and accounting – and in the secondary sector – masonry, industrial cleaning), in its self-training centres and in collaboration with other partners in authorized training centres.
In the field of vocational guidance, the arbeitsamt is in charge of guidance of job seekers as well as young people and other audiences. Its tasks consist in the elaboration, in collaboration with the person looking for an advice, of a personal plan as part of a long lasting prospect.
Information about professions and training opportunities is a mainstay of vocational guidance.
